Who's On First? Starfleet's First Officers

Red Alert!  Who's on first base?  20th century comic duo Abbott and Costello may have never warped on a Starfleet starship - although they did go to Mars - but their historically popular comedy bit, 'Who's On First?', evokes a responsible officer rank which doesn't always get deserved attention nor respect.

Check out my TrekNews article about those Number Ones of Star Trek.

Spock, I Am Your Father

Trekkies know Vulcans.  Trekkies know Spock.  If there's one other Vulcan they know better, it's Sarek - or Spock's Dad.  Yeah, there was Tuvok, in Voyager, but well you know, he wasn't a respected Vulcan ambassador.  Star Trek: Discovery aims to get us all acquainted with Spock's dear old dad once again.

Pon Farr Gone Too Far?

The Vulcan time of mating and sexual play, Pon Farr, may go a bit too far for some.  In 1984, Leonard Nimoy directed the 3rd big Trek feature film, Search For Spock, and though it's more remembered as the quest to find Spock and his soul or katra, it's also a search for a Vulcan's lost libido.

Check out my new OMNI article to learn more.

Is The Beard Evil or Sexy?

The Beard.  Riker did it.  Data tried to do it.  Geordi even tried the lusty lure of the beard.  Before all of them, there was that naughty Mister Spock from that alternate universe who did the facial hair thing in a most logical way.

Mirror, Mirror on the wall:  Is the beard sexy or evil?  Maybe both?

Trek Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself

Vulcans really know how to turn a memorable phrase.  Live Long & Prosper.  Infinite Diversity Infinite Combination.  Fascinating.  Logic dictates.  Etc.  You could even say Vulcans know how to rap.

Check out Mister Spock flashing that Vulcan peace sign.  Vulcan philosophy?  Maybe it's simply good old fashioned common sense.

William Shatner On His Bromance With Leonard Nimoy

Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock go together like milk and cookies or Han and Luke.  With the passing of Leonard Nimoy, that iconic pair has finally been separated.  Leonard's co-star and longtime friend William Shatner, has written a tribute book detailed their unique friendship.  Sadly at the end of Nimoy's life, the actor stopped talking to his former starship Captain.  Why?  You'll have to buy the book to find out.

Leonard Nimoy's Daughter Seeks To Finish His Last Project

Spock was known to help out Bones in sickbay more than a few times. With that spirit in mind, a look at a real life medical condition will hopefully be Leonard Nimoy's last and lasting film legacy.  Nimoy's final film project, unfinished at the time of his death, is being picked up and will be finished by his daughter, Julie Nimoy.

The film is a documentary on the condition known as COPD - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - the illness which contributed to actor Leonard Nimoy's death.  Read more about the project here.

Kim Darby in Miri

Oh these kids today!  Oh those grownups!  Oh those grups!

Actress Kim Darby (True Grit) played the girl smitten with William Shatner's Captain Kirk in the original series episode, Miri.  She may have appeared as if she was just barely escaping the torturous throws of puberty, but Miri came from a race of folk who tinkered with their DNA. In truth, she was many hundreds of years old, and since the genetic tampering incurs madness and finally death, she and her fellow ancient children were running out of time.
