Who's On First? Starfleet's First Officers

Red Alert!  Who's on first base?  20th century comic duo Abbott and Costello may have never warped on a Starfleet starship - although they did go to Mars - but their historically popular comedy bit, 'Who's On First?', evokes a responsible officer rank which doesn't always get deserved attention nor respect.

Check out my TrekNews article about those Number Ones of Star Trek.

The Secret Life Of Trek Pets

Like your pets?  Of course you do - don't we all?  Will we still love our pets in the far flung future?  Data loved his pet cat.  Captain Picard had Livingston - his lion fish, floating around in his aquarium in his Ready Room on Enterprise.  Pets are such a big part of most everyone's lives, and they're going to be found in the future.  Check out my new TrekNews article on The Secret Life of Trek Pets.

Where Guinan Knows Your Name

Sam Malone is a Boston bartender.  Guinan is a galactic bartender. Sam runs Cheers.  Guinan runs Ten Forward.  Both of these lounge operating professionals know your name.

Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg's Guinan is also the hostess of the hippest place on Captain Picard's Starfleet starship - Enterprise 1701-D.  Guinan knows your name, your drink and your species.  Check her and her friends out in my new article.

Raunchy Sex Club or Posh Resort?

Captain Picard is overworked.  He needs some time to himself - a little rest and relaxation.  So he does what any Starfleet professional would do.  He goes to vacation at the fabled Planet of Risa.  The world is known for its warm, welcoming hospitality - and for having a well earned reputation as a bit of a raunchy sex club.

Check out my article where we find Picard in paradise.

Spock, I Am Your Father

Trekkies know Vulcans.  Trekkies know Spock.  If there's one other Vulcan they know better, it's Sarek - or Spock's Dad.  Yeah, there was Tuvok, in Voyager, but well you know, he wasn't a respected Vulcan ambassador.  Star Trek: Discovery aims to get us all acquainted with Spock's dear old dad once again.

Snacks of The Stars

Good food and essential snacking isn't just something we leave behind on planet Earth.  When we finally travel out to play and work among the awesome majesty of the stars, we'll need some good old fashioned sustenance.  Star Trek and Star Wars has had some pretty nifty ways to tie on the old feedbag.  Klingon Gagh?  Vulcan Plomeek Soup?  Yummy!

Booze In Space

Everybody needs a good, stiff drink now and then, however, the crew of the Enterprise seemed always to be drinking.  The folks over at Deep Space Nine also imbibed quite a bit.  Romulan Ale.  Saurian Brandy.  What is it about space travel that has everyone boozing it up?

Read about it in my new OMNI article.

Artificial Intelligence - The Sci-Fi Version

Scientists tell us - A.I. is coming to our world.  We keep talking about A.I. - artificial intelligence.  We're not there yet. Despite major advances in 'machine learning' or expert systems, computers are still pretty dumb.  What will happen when A.I. becomes a reality, and the machines start talking back to us and make sense?

Read about science fiction's depiction of A.I. in my new OMNI article.
