Sam Malone is a Boston bartender.  Guinan is a galactic bartender. Sam runs Cheers.  Guinan runs Ten Forward.  Both of these lounge operating professionals know your name. 

Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg's Guinan is also the hostess of the hippest place on Captain Picard's Starfleet starship - Enterprise 1701-D.  Guinan knows your name, your drink and your species.  Check her and her friends out in my new article.

Name the most romantic spot you've ever had the pleasure of visiting, and I'll bet that Ten Forward has it beat.  The bar or lounge of Captain Picard's Enterprise can serve as a moody relaxation spot, a place for friends to gather after a tough away mission, but with its majestic windows and sweeping views of the whole of the galaxy itself, Ten Forward sets a romantic tone like no other.

She was the Bajoran with the checkered past who gave Commander Riker more than a little pause when she came aboard the Enterprise NCC-1701-D for a vital mission.  Played by actress Michelle Forbes, Ro Laren - or Laren Ro, since Bajorans use their surname first - would eventually become an important part of Captain Picard's Enterprise.

Laugh, Love & Sex: The Comedy of Star Trek

There are more than a few of us who think funny people are sexy.  Comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Howard Stern, Whoopi Goldberg, Tim Allen, Louis CK, Kathy Griffin and Joe Piscopo aren't exactly known for their classic good looks.  But funny as sexy?  They have laughs for their libido to spare.

On Star Trek: The Next Generation, Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost) played barkeep Guinan and Joe Piscopo (Saturday Night Live) guest starred as a wacky hologram in a holodeck program of Data's. Doing what else? Stand-up comedy of course!  Set phasers on kill - as in you kill me!
