Nichelle Nichols Dancing On Star Trek Set
Actresses like Nichelle Nichols, who brought to life Lt. Uhura, are multi-faceted artists. Besides being accomplished actors and actresses, they may also be singers, dancers, visual artists and much more. The parts they play in the TV shows and films we love can often boost their public profiles, but exclude some of those other extraordinary talents.
In these fantastic photos, we see Nichols practicing some incredible dance moves while off camera on Star Trek - the original series. It's a shame that one of the writers - or Gene Roddenberry himself - couldn't have penned a major storyline in which Nichols could have showcased her wonderful, graceful dancer skills. Thankfully, we have these great photos to document her passionate exuberance in moving around so wonderfully. It's clear Uhura wasn't only highly skilled linguistically, but exquisitely capable on the dance floor too.

The Love Of Science Fiction - Love & Sex in Sci-Fi
Space... The final frontier... The cosmos.... it's a really, really big place. They say the most important question we can ask ourselves as a species is: Are we alone? Well, it's certainly no fun to be alone, at least all the time. Like the sci-fi movie Contact (based on Carl Sagan's novel) promotes: If we are all alone, it seems like an awful waste of space. In Ridley Scott's Alien, they say, In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream. Scream - from what, the desperation of loneliness?
Being all alone - even on a crowded planet - is definitely not much fun either. Fans of Star Trek know that Captain Kirk (William Shatner) wasn't the kind of guy to be lonely for very long. He may have been a bit too amorous for some of the more prudish among us, but compared to say James Bond, or the devilish Han Solo (Harrison Ford), James T. Kirk wasn't so unusual. Kirk's crew is also no stranger to the poetry of love, or even the lustful leanings of plain, old fashioned sex. From Spock to Scotty, Chekov to Uhura, the Enterprise crew knew that partnering up during those demanding space voyages was not only healthy, but downright logical.

Star Trek Sexy Spotlight - Zoe Saldana - Lt. Uhura
Star Trek: Into Darkness star Zoe Saldana loves science fiction. That the actress picked to take over the iconic role made famous by Nichelle Nichols is a big fan herself assures other fans the franchise is in safe hands. Saldana grew up with a trekkie mother and loving movies like The Terminator and Blade Runner. These days, she sits on the bridge of Starfleet's flagship starship - the Enterprise. The beautiful actress loves sci-fi, and now she's an important part of one of the biggest sci-fi franchises in history.

How A Star Trek Became A Sex Trek
Star Trek or Sex Trek? Anybody who pays attention to Gene Roddenberry's original TV show will see that the creator utilized the sexual aspects of humanity and the delightful struggle of our romantic enganglements to give his sci-fi vehicle more of a human punch.

Star Trek Sexy Spotlight: Lt. Ilia - Persis Khambatta
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) marked the big screen debut of the TV show, and the return of original adventures of the Gene Roddenberry created universe. Directed by veteran movie maker Robert Wise (The Day The Earth Stood Still), critics and audiences ultimately had mixed reactions to the project, however, it was an undeniable box office success. Co-star Persis Khambatta played Lt. Ilia, a beautiful and bald alien called a Deltan.
Was she some kind of free love Hippy? A flower powered alien? Was she an extraterrestrial Hare Krishna?
Lt. Ilia hailed from a planet where sexual expression was as natural as breathing or eating. To express oneself openly in a sexual way was second nature to her people. Her bald look may be more acceptable today, but back in 1979, the look pretty much stunned moviegoers. For the first spin-off series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Roddenberry reshaped the character and created Counselor Deanna Troi - the thick haired beauty who boasted similar empathic powers and had a romantic connection to Commander William Riker. V'ger 'merged' Lt. Ilia and William Decker (Stephen Collins) through a kind of digital absorption and matrix. Who knows just where they ended up.

Star Trek Sexy Spotlight: Lt. Uhura - Nichelle Nichols & Zoe Saldana
My eBook Star Trek Sex revolves around the sexual happenings, play and even the mere suggestions (and there are many) found in Gene Roddeberry's original sci-fi TV show. Covering the movies - right up to the J.J. Abrams' reboot - an adult and mature sexuality has always been part of the universe. One of the most classy, sophisticated and sexy characters is Lt. Uhura. Brought to life by the actress Nichelle Nichols and now played by Zoe Saldana in the feature film reboots, Uhura opened hailing frequencies as communications officer of Starship Enterprise, but always retained her considerable feminine charms.
Uhura remains a landmark Hollywood character in so many ways. No only was she an important part of the Enterprise crew, she's heralded as one of the first black TV characters to be an important part of the ensemble of a major television show. Even so, the iconic role and the journey getting there was not without a share of struggle. For a time, Nichols seriously considered quitting the show. She felt there was a lack of meaningful screen time for Uhura and that her character should have been more center stage. Why didn't she quit the program? None other than Martin Luther King Jr. talked her out of leaving the series.
