Carol Marcus - Federation Scientist & A Starfleet Captain's Love

Can I cook, or can't I?  Dr. Carol Marcus, one of the United Federation of Planets top scientists, is responsible for creating the massively complex Genesis Device.  This awesomely powerful energy device can literally re-imagine a world into something new.  We meet this innovative visionary in the feature film, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and marvel at the great potential of her Genesis Device to accomplish terraforming.

Played by Bibi Besch (Tremors), Dr. Marcus has more than a friendly familiarity with one Captain James T. Kirk.  Back in the day, the two professionals were intense flames, and their union even produced a son, David - who works with Marcus on the terraforming project.  Sadly, at the close of the film, we see that although Carol Marcus tried to give the galaxy a potentially remarkable gift of creation, it devolves into a violent error of destruction.

In director J.J. Abrams' alternate reality do over of Wrath of Khan, Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013), Dr. Carol Marcus is played by British actress Alice Eve.

The Paradise Syndrome - Miramanee - Sabrina Scharf

Who doesn't love the simple life?  For James T. Kirk, a stressed out Starfleet professional, an alien device that grants amnesia is just the ticket for the ultimate get away from it all.  Miramanee loved Kirok - better known as Kirk, or Captain Kirk.  In the original series episode, The Paradise Syndrome, our favorite starship commander becomes a new man, with a new life and a new love.

Played by actress Sabrina Scharf - who later became a state senator in CA - Miramanee brings happiness to a befuddled Kirk, before reality sets in again for the fabled Starfleet officer.  For awhile, though, the Enterprise Captain led a simple, uncomplicated life.

Hologram Hotness

What's a knockout like you doing in a computer generated gin joint like this?  Not a bad come on line, and when brazenly delivered by the Enterprise D's Cmdr. Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) to a holographic honey named Minuet, it's quite fitting.

Hot holograms?  Minuet could be elected the spokesperson for the group.

Minuet would be so convincing in her alluring realism, that when Riker was abducted and snared into an even more advanced holographic environment than his Starship's holodeck (Future Imperfect), his captor believed she was the real deal.

The captivating Minuet embodied the classic love story complete with a most poignant ending.  Although not flesh and blood, for Will Riker, the sexy Minuet became the unforgettable girl who not only got away, but who never really was in the first place.

Space Spycraft - A Klingon Beauty

Klingons are known as fierce, honor bound warriors.  For those keeping track closely, however, the Klingon women are often also known for their fierce looks and smoldering sexuality.

In the feature film Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, we're introduced to the exotic Valkris.  She's an accomplished spy, a sexy beauty, and one highly resourceful Klingon.  She helps her love, the merciless Kruge, by getting him the plans of the incredibly destructive, and highly unstable Genesis Device.  Sadly, because of bad choices on her part, Valkris can't't share the spoils with her beloved, but then Kruge (Christopher Lloyd) doesn’t last that much longer himself anyway.

Spotlight On Spock's Mom: Amanda Grayson - Jane Wyatt

It's said Moms have the hardest jobs around - certainly true if judged by total time spent on the clock and workload required.  As if being the mother of one of the most respected officers on one of the most celebrated Starfleet starships isn't enough, throw in being the wife of Vulcan's legendary ambassador, Sarek (Mark Lenard), and you have one beautiful, busy and respected lady.

Amanda Grayson hails from Earth, but the love of her life, Spock's dad, is a native of the Planet Vulcan.  With their romantic joining, the pair created Spock (Leonard Nimoy) who led a life of struggle trying to reconcile the relatively disparate cultures of his dual heritage.  Played by veteran actress Jane Wyatt, Spock's mom appeared in the classic original series episode, Journey To Babel, and she then made an appearance in the feature film, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Klingon Cleavage - A Fashion Sense Like No Other Species

Weird, wild and wacky aliens abound in Star Trek.  Amid all the bizarre creatures and life forms, there's more than a few fetching forms at play in the cosmos.  Over the years, the Klingons have made their mark on Gene Roddenberry's universe as one of the more crafty, resilient and resourceful opponents to challenge Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets.

Klingons are clever in battle, but they can also be sexy.

From a fantasy to flesh playmate for a shocked, though aroused Worf conjured by a Q enabled Commander Riker, to the political machinations of two conniving siblings, Klingon females catch the lusty attention of males of many species.

A couple of Klingons above all others are well known for their blatant sexuality.  Introduced during the Next Generation years, and co-stars of the feature film, ST: Generations, the Duras Sisters (Barbara March, Gwyneth Walsh) came to be known for their underhanded approach to politics, and also for their less than modest uniforms.  Klingon cleavage?  Hey, whatever works!

Starship Prometheus - Voyager's Doc Goes On A Mission

Many starships in Gene Roddenberry's universe are powerful, practical and even downright awesome.  They ferry noble Starfleet professionals to faraway planets and explore the wondrous unknown of the cosmos.  Of them, the many ships whose designation is Enterprise are some of the most famous and versatile.  Captains Kirk and Picard commanded these legendary vessels.

Then there are the others....

Prometheus is an experimental design from Starfleet, but when Star Trek: Voyager's Doc (Robert Picardo) is 'beamed' aboard and must work with that ship's less than friendly hologram, it rises to the mission challenge.  Prometheus is a magnificent example of advanced technology and it's one sexy starfleet beast indeed.

Lucy - The Great Redhead Of The Galaxy

If creator, writer and producer Gene Roddenberry is known affectionately as The Great Bird Of The Galaxy, then Lucille Ball, whose Desilu studio produced Star Trek, must be The Great Redhead of The Galaxy.

It's said that Lucy took such pride in her television shows, she was even known to push a broom to clean the sets, and swept up on the Trek sets more than once.  Talk about a hands on boss.  The next time you laugh out loud watching I Love Lucy or catch one of your favorite Star Trek tales, remember, that if it wasn't for Lucille Ball's wild comedy, Roddenberry's great space race may never have blasted off at warp speed.

Caitlyn Jenner Sci-Fi - If The Former Bruce Jenner Picked A Favorite Episode

Turnabout Intruder marks an interesting final episode for Gene Roddenberry's landmark TV show.  It's not only the last episode of the three season show, it also explores more of Captain Kirk's (William Shatner) backstory, and in many ways, it's one of the earliest examples of a transgender examination on American TV.  Caitlyn Jenner's favorite TOS episode?  Perhaps....

It has been criticized for a too convenient or unbelievable motivation on the part of the antagonist, and far more negatively, for a less than subdued or subtle performance from Shatner.  Ultimately, this seems unfair.  When remembering filmed performances where a gender is 'bent' includes such broad, early examples as Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in the classic comedy, Some Like It Hot, or the British Benny Hill or comic troupe of Monty Python's many drag drenched skits, Shatner's choices can be understood, if not wholly embraced by the more demanding fan.

When taken in full context and considering a still embryonic and less sophisticated discussion of sexually exotic topics of the era, especially on American television, the episode can be viewed as a roughly hewn landmark

While on planet Camus II, Dr. Janice Lester, an old flame from Kirk's past, uses alien technology to 'body swap' her mind and consciousness into his male body.  Now, the Starfleet Captain is trapped in a female body and must convince those around him that he's actually the male starship commander.  It all plays as far fetched space opera, soapy drama and incredible science fiction, however, the notion of being trapped in another body hits home in an authentic way for the transgender community.  Many transgender people do talk about having that same struggle - revealing them thinking and feeling as one gender, but having to inhabit and live in the world as the opposite gender physically.

Legal Space Case: A Sexy Devil Must Be Appeased

The devil made me do it!  In this TNG episode, Devil's Due, the devil wants many people to do it - that is, pay up!  Her name is Ardra (Marta Dubois), and she's convinced a world that she's a dark, ancient force demanding payment.  Payment, according to her, is basically becoming ruler of the entire planet.

There have been many depictions of the dark side of the cosmos.  In scores of movies, the devil, Satan or the fallen angel has been portrayed in many ways and by many actors.  Here on Next Generation, the actress is definitely one of the sexier ones to take on the legendary and infamous mantle of a dark overlord.  Trivia Note:  Actresses Stella Stevens and Adrienne Barbeau were both considered for the devilish role of Ardra before actress Marta Dubois finally snagged the plum part.

The Rock VS The Borg & Seven of Nine

In this corner, let us present a professional wrestler turned actor - Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock.  In the opposite corner, we give you a cyborg torn from her human family - one Seven of  Nine, played by Jeri Ryan.  Who will emerge victorious in this brutal art of unarmed combat?

These two beautiful people squared off in the action packed episode, Tsunkatse, on Star Trek: Voyager. After their fictitious pugilistic bout, Jeri Ryan continued in television by joining the cast of Boston Public, while The Rock went on to mega movie fame in huge blockbuster movies.

The Return of Lindsay Ballard to the Starship Voyager

Ensign Lyndsay Ballard (Kim Rhodes) died on an away mission, but that doesn't stop her from returning to her home - the Federation Starship Voyager - commanded by Captain Kathryn Janeway, played by Kate Mulgrew, who also plays Russian prison cook Red on, Orange Is The New Black.

Ballard is back, but she's not the same woman.  She has been resurrected from the dead and both surgically and genetically transformed into a new species by the Kobali - an alien race who scavenges corpses and gives them new life.  Harry Kim tries to kindle something of a romance with the new Ensign Ballard, but the pull of her new race is too strong for them both.  This is one of the most poignant tales of doomed romance on any of the Trek shows.  It's all the more compelling because of the excellent performances of actors Garrett Wang as Harry Kim and Kim Rhodes as Ballard.

Quark's Walk on the Wild Side - Bruce Jenner Would Be Proud

Bruce Jenner captured the world's attention with his highly personal revelation about wanting to become a woman.  Who could have thought that in the colorful Kardashian clan, Jenner would end up standing out more than the others?  Gender reassignment is a highly complex and emotional issue, but as Jenner's comprehensive interview with Diane Sawyer clearly showed us, there's always room for humor.  Yes, comedy is always an effective healing force.

On Deep Space Nine, the mirthful laughter came many times from Quark (Armin Shimmerman) the Ferengi barkeep.  His many run ins with Constable Odo are legendary, and chuckle filled, but then there was the time Quark dressed up....

See for yourself.

Quark wasn't interested in becoming the fair sex permanently, but he did cut an interesting figure as a woman.  Sexy?  Maybe not, but he was certainly alluring - well, for a Ferengi anyway!

Immortality's Highly Emotional Price

What price immortality?  How about chronic sorrow and loss?  When Kirk's Enterprise comes upon a planet with an odd duo, the Starfleet crew encounters a man who lives forever and one who was never alive at all.

Captain Kirk is captivated by a sexy, young woman - one Rayna Kapec.  Rayna, played by actress Louise Sorel, appears as the worldly man's perfect companion or even his ideal mate.  She's lovely, impressively well read and eternally charming.  She is all these things and can be many more, because she's artificial.  As an android, Rayna can be programmed with many attractive attributes, but the most elusive condition and fragile quality - that of human emotional interaction - eludes her.  Ultimately, it's the female construct's undoing, and a heartbreaking loss for both Flint and James T. Kirk.

Seductive Electric Sex

One of my favorite movie lines of all time is from director Bob Clark's holiday classic, A Christmas Story.  Talking about his father's 'major award', Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) as narrator comments, "Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of Electric Sex gleaming in the window."

In the original series episode, I, Mudd, slimy conman Harry Mudd makes a return and he's once again surrounded by more than a few hot beauties.  This time, however, the sexual allure isn't from drug enhanced super babes, but more like erotically charged refugees from Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.  Mudd's now mixed himself up with highly advanced artificial intelligence - electric sex in the seductive form of super powerful androids.  Care to get acquainted with them?

Kira And Her Slinky Mirror Counterpart

Star Trek loves to play around with the alternate universe or mirror universe theory - that there may be other universes and realities much like our own, albeit with certain differences.  Although not officially proven by our science at this relatively rudimentary developmental stage, science fiction like Trek or the TV series, Sliders, uses the concept often and to great dramatic ends.

In Deep Space Nine, the Bajoran Officer Major Kira Nerys has her own mirror counterpart, who, shall we say, is complicated.  She calls herself the Indendant, and all who cross her path and challenge her definitely come to know just how seriously she takes her intentions.

X-Men Meet Starfleet's Finest

Actress Famke Jannsen may be best known as the telepathically talented Jean Grey in the X-Men movies, but before romping around trying to take down Magneto (Ian McKellan), she boarded Captain Jean-Luc Picard's Starship Enterprise on the syndicated show, Star Trek: The Next Generation, in the episode, The Perfect Mate.

She played Kamala from Krios Prime, a mysteriously gorgeous alien, who like an intergalactic Geisha girl knew just how to please any man in virtually any way.  In both roles, the luminous Jannsen co-starred with British actor Patrick Stewart who played both TNG's Picard and Professor Xavier, leader and mentor of Marvel's Amazing X-Men.

Orange Is The New Black And Also 'Red'

Orange Is The New Black is the hot show everyone's buzzing about on Netflix.  Chronicling the desperate lives of inmates in a women's prison, the show rides a thrilling roller coaster of intense emotions and wild themes.  Sexuality, of all kinds and stripes, also plays a big part in the narrative equation.  There are so many fun characters, one would be hard pressed to pick a favorite.  But one of the inmates holds a highly respected sci-fi connection.  One familiar face stands out from the pack of gals - one Kate Mulgrew, best known to loyal Star Trek:Voyager fans as Captain Kathryn Janeway.

Now, Mulgrew plays 'Red' - a tough talking, no nonsense Russian named Galina Reznikov, who cooks up the grub for her fellow prison pals.  It appears that Janeway has morphed into Neelix - who'd have guessed it?

The Regulation Stands - But Not On Risa

"You gonna throw me in the brig?" asks the first officer of Starship Equinox to B'Elanna Torres in the Star Trek: Voyager episode of the same name.  In Max's case, he was up to no good, so the question had merit.  During other situations, it's a seemingly innocent query full of a myriad of legal and moral possibilities.  Indeed, a starship like Voyager, according to Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) must run on regulations and protocols.  However, on the pleasure planet of Risa, those nagging, old school laws and parameters fall neatly away.

Like the Fantasy Island of the cosmos, Risa enabled stressed out Starfleet professionals to officially and efficiently take a load off.  Recreation came in many forms - most especially of the sexual kind. One of the trademark visuals - and helpful items - of a stay on Risa is the ritualistic displaying of the Horga'hn or fertility idol.  It may not look like much, or even downright silly, but it's said that once displayed, the holder nearly always gets romantic action.  Of exactly what type and amount, well, that's strictly personal.

Deep Space Nine - Space Station of Sexuality

Deep Space Nine (Terok Nor) may have been created by the Cardassians - those bad boys and girls first showcased in Star Trek: The Next Generation - but when the Bajorans took over, the space station went from gloomy to welcoming and even sensuous.  From the many vendors on the promenade to Quark's - where you could play Dabo and flirt with those gorgeous and playful Dabo girls - DS9 was the place to be for those who wanted more than mundane recreational play with their space faring adventures.
